August is midsummer/late summer, and marks the beginning of the harvest of Mother Earth's gifts.

This is the best time to fish for trout, or other fish. And everywhere, ripe berries of many kinds are abundant. What we can find in nature at this time has traditionally been what has helped keep us alive through a long and cold winter.

-Wild berries have always played a role, both as food and medicine. They were either eaten fresh, or dried and used in tea. They could also be mixed into food as flavourings.

Raspberries, blueberries, cloudberries, wild cherries, lingonberries, crowberries, blackberries, rowanberries, black elderberries, cranberries, wild strawberries, juniper berries, black chokeberries and rosehips. All of these can be found in Norwegian nature. What they all have in common is that they are packed full of nutrients, antioxidants and flavour. Berries belong in a varied and healthy diet.
