Brennneslens Magiske Egenskaper

The nettle, considered by many to be a weed, has a long history in the world of shamanism. It is mentioned in many cultures, including the Norse one. It is named among the nine great herbs used by the völva. The use of nine herbs in a mixture is probably something the völvas learned from the Sami noaidi. The nettle is said to originate from Muspelheim and is used in powerful defence. It also sends curses back to whoever sent them. If you scatter it around your house, or let it grow by the front door, it keeps evil away. It is perhaps no coincidence that nettles grow around so many fields and farms. I have been told that in the old days it was quite common to have nettles around the fields to protect the crops against evil and sorcery. If you place it on the fire, it wards off danger. Nettle laid on the fire will make any fire burn stronger, since it belongs to Muspelheim. If you carry it on you or in your hand, it is said to keep spectres and ghosts away. It was often used in shamanic extractions. The nettle is also associated with Thor in Norse belief.
