This is my Christmas Eve ceremony. You bring torches, either just outside if you live in a city, or in my case, on a hilltop. 1. Call upon the four cardinal directions, Mother Earth, Father Sun, Grandmother Moon and our helpers. Create a "sacred space" or sacred circle. The participants hold hands. 2. I sit down and hold my hand against the ground (Mother Earth), giving thanks that we may be one of her children, giving thanks for what nature gives us (relating this to the fact that so many of her children are alone on this day, children who may not be doing so well today, when things are to be bought and money flows freely, and we forget the essence of everyday life). I say welcome to the sun. Everyone in the circle gets to say their THANKS. For example, my nine-year-old son gave thanks for everything Mother Earth gives us, so that we can be full. My seven-year-old daughter gave thanks that we may be here on earth. 3. I give thanks to those who are part of this sacred circle, and to those I have called upon.
