In shamanism we consider that all living things have a soul, a spirit. A life force and a consciousness. It means that they come from the same source as us and should be treated with respect. In shamanism one regards oneself as part of the circle, part of nature and not outside of or above it. Even stones and plants have this essence and consciousness, and although this is not the same consciousness as ours, they have an intention and a function. It also means that they possess a knowledge that can be shared. We can interact and communicate with them if we understand the language. The knowledge of this language is perhaps found first and foremost among our indigenous peoples, but also in more modern forms of shamanism. We who practice shamanism have a spiritual relationship with nature and our surroundings. All living things in nature are our brothers and sisters.
