The Reindeer's Antlers

Reinens Hor

Once in my early childhood I noticed a reindeer standing and scratching its antler with its hind foot. I asked my mentor why it did that, and he answered that the reindeer shapes its own antlers. The reindeer has a gland between its hind hooves for this purpose. So when the reindeer scratches its antler, a point grows out at the spot it scratches, and it shapes the point carefully. Is this true?? I believe it is. No two antlers are alike, and if a reindeer goes blind in one eye, one side of the antler will become completely asymmetrical and scraggly.
